Sep-Oct | New Mexico College Access Council Fall 2023 College Fair Days: A list of college fairs throughout the state. It’s grouped into regional weeks and includes contact information for the fair organizers. If your school is not hosting a fair this fall, you can share this with your students so they can attend one nearby.
Sep 30 | 10 AM - 2 PM | UNM College of Engineering Open House: See the wealth of resources UNM’s College of Engineering offers. Interested students can sign up for the event using this RSVP link.
Oct 8 | 8 AM - 4 PM | Colorado College Open House: Students and families can tour, hear a student panel, and take a mock class to experience the college’s unique “block plan” firsthand.
Oct 21 | 9 AM - 4:30 PM | The Aggie Experience at NMSU: Features Student Panels, Department Presentations, and Live Demonstrations.
Nov 4 | 9 AM - 3 PM | New Mexico Tech Exploration Day: This event for future Miners should not be considered a ‘minor’ event. Rumor is there will even be a drone battle competition for all to witness!
Virtual Events
Sep 26 | 11 AM - 1 PM | Getting Ready for the Better FAFSA: This can’t miss webinar by the National College Attainment Network (NCAN) will provide a line-by-line review of the updated FAFSA, which will open in December 2023. If you can’t make this one, they will be doing the same presentation again on October 23, November 20, and December 4, all at 11 AM.
Sep 26-29 | Neubauer College Week by UChicago : Throughout the week, UChicago will host a series of events to provide resources for educators, students, and parents about the college admissions process. The events are listed below.
Sep 26 | 6-7 PM | Excelencia at UChicago: A conversation with Andre Castro AB’22, who will talk about his experiences in the College as well as racing in NASCAR.
Sep 27 | 5-6 PM | Financial Aid: Learn more about financial aid opportunities, and how to apply for them. (A recording of this presentation in Spanish is also available).
Sep 28 | 6-7 PM | Essay Writing Workshop: UChicago admission officers present about essay writing.
Sep 29 | 5-6 PM | UChicago Current Student Panel: Current UChicago students discuss student life and academics.
Oct 18 | 11 AM | Barnard, Colorado College, Rice, Tufts, and Yale Virtual Information Session for Rural & Small Town Counselors: Admission officers from these five colleges will present about holistic admissions, crafting a college list, financial aid, and how to support students from rural areas and small towns in the transition to college.
Scholarships & Financial Aid
The Coca Cola Scholarship is worth $20,000 and is open until October 2 at 3pm Mountain Time.
The Daniels Scholarship is for low-income students in New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming, and Utah. The deadline is October 15, giving students just over a month to apply.
The Hagan Scholarship deadline is December 1. The scholarship covers unmet need, in addition to a Schwab investment account, along with free study abroad.
The Elks Scholarship ranges from $1,000-$7,500 per year, and is awarded to 500 students nationwide. The application deadline is November 15.
December 1 is the priority scholarship deadline for most in-state and WUE schools.
